TREVOR BURKE, Eden
I was born in Vandalia Ohio, and I’ve always wanted to try things nobody else did. My parents wanted me to be a meat-head athlete and go for varsity in Swim and Cross Country. I however, was not interested in that. I was more interest in creating original artwork and stories. I’ve got a diploma in Digital Design at Miami Valley Career Technology Center. I moved on to improve my artwork in a more mature and focused manor, so I attended Sinclair Community College. I graduated with an Associate’s degree in Art in 2018. I have since moved out of Ohio into Utah to get an affordable college degree and look after my grandparents while I’m out here. I’m studying for a Creative Writing major at Weber State University, with a minor in Art. I plan on graduating in the summer of 2021.
My artwork is a cartoonish style inspired by the Lowbrow art movement. An art style that is famous for its colorful visuals, surreal characters, and just phantasmagoric brilliance. Some of my other influences include old Tex Avery, Fleischer Studio, Chuck Jones and Bob Clampett cartoons. I enjoyed their use of exaggerated characters, imaginative designs, sassy humor, and lasting appeal among people. I work with both black and white, and color when creating my drawings. I use markers, chalk, oil pastel, and colored pencil. People often ask me why you do cartoons instead of realistic art? I usually answer back, It’s what I enjoy doing, it’s what makes me special and it is how I view the world, and I see this world being a place of insanity and charm. We all act like cartoon characters we just don’t like to admit it. My works are for sale: the 9x12 size are $6, 18or19 x22 are $200 and all larger are $350.
